Gimlet is an open-source VS Code extension that wraps solana-lldb
and agave-ledger-tool
to provide developers with a local step debugger for Solana programs. Designed by LimeChain, Gimlet bridges the tooling gap for smart contract developers who want more transparency and control during development and testing. With Gimlet, users can place breakpoints in Solana programs, inspect runtime behavior, and interact with local ledger state—all within the familiar VS Code workflow.
This bounty invites developers, security researchers, and power users to install and actively test Gimlet in their own Solana projects. The core goal is to gather real-world feedback, identify bugs or limitations, and propose meaningful improvements. Participants can engage at different levels: by submitting structured product feedback, by identifying and reporting edge-case failures, or by directly contributing fixes, reproducible examples, or GitHub PRs.
Bounty Task:
Install Gimlet and use it to debug a Solana smart contract. This can be your own project or a public Anchor or Solana example repo. As you test, write a feedback report that covers usability, setup experience, issues encountered, and suggested improvements as follows:
Identifying and reproducing breakpoint bugs (e.g. breakpoints not hitting, crashes, etc.).
Debugging complex Anchor programs and reporting unexpected behavior (e.g. variable inspection issues, CPI failures, etc.).
Submitting a pull request with a fix, improvement, or enhanced support (e.g. better PATH detection, improved UI/UX).
Creating a minimal test repo that reproduces a known issue.
Please use the Feedback Template below and include screenshots or logs for your findings.
Did you use the Feedback Template?
Did you test both LLDB and Agave Ledger Tool features?
Did you provide both positive and negative feedback?
Did you include reproducible test cases, screenshots, or logs?
Did you provide setup details (OS, toolchain, PATH config, etc)?
Did you submit a pull request or open GitHub issues?
Did you create a test repo or debug a real Anchor app?
