Write and publish a thoughtful research article on how the launch of Pyth V2 (the pull oracle iteration of Pyth Price Feeds) on Solana mainnet-beta will benefit Solana DeFi.
Pyth Network started out on Solana as a push oracle. The Pyth oracle program in this V1 is native to Solana. Data providers posted their price updates directly to Solana mainnet-beta. The Pyth oracle program would then aggregate their inputs on-chain to publish a continuous stream of native price updates.
In 2022, the Pyth Network launched its V2, a pull oracle designed on the Pythnet appchain, to send oracle updates cross-chain to non-Solana ecosystems. Only recently is Pyth V2 coming to Solana mainnet-beta. This will require all Solana DeFi protocols to migrate from the old Pyth Network push oracle to the new pull oracle. In this arrangement, even Solana DeFi protocols will pull price updates from Pythnet.
First announced in April 2021, the Pyth Network is the largest and fastest-growing first-party financial oracle for real-time asset price data. Pyth delivers over 500 low-latency price feeds across digital assets, FX, ETFs, equities, and commodities to more than 55 blockchain ecosystems, securely and transparently.
The Pyth Network comprises some of the world’s largest exchanges, market makers, and financial services providers, who contribute their proprietary price data to the Pyth oracle for on-chain aggregation and distribution to smart contract applications.
Pyth introduces a pull oracle design which empowers apps to request or pull the latest price update to their native blockchain on demand. The Pyth Network has secured more than $400B in trading volume across hundreds of Web3 and Web2 applications. You can learn more from the Pyth website and documentation.
